Holistic Occupational Therapy

Reconnecting wisdom and wellbeing settles and encourages positive behaviour, improving independence by enabling calmer daily living. This brings peace of mind to you, your carers, family members and support staff.

Our Occupational Therapy Program is for people in NDIS experiencing issues in independence related to trauma, mental health, developmental delay, pain, depression, anxiety and dementia.

Training is also offered to health care teams and families to support meaningful lives for clients with disabilities, and residents in aged care environments. Holistic, evidence based, trauma-informed approaches enable health workers to support your goals in living a nourishing life with meaningful, joyful occupation.

Positive Behaviour Support

Healthy Outlook offers unique and innovative Positive Behaviour Support that focuses on each client’s strengths and the surrounding team members’ values, meaning and reason for the work they do. We harness the collective wisdom of the whole team in a way that reconnects everyone in creating a shared vision with the client, moving into greater staff engagement and practical ways to support the clients chosen goals.

These strategies reconnect wisdom and wellbeing to reduce or eliminate behaviours by developing emotional health, along with adaptation of the environment or adoption of different ways of working to support the client.

The development of a behaviour support plan with our person-centred approach can lead to a richer, more fulfilling life, and the capacity to engage more fully in the community.

Finding a way that works for everyone by involving all the people who care together with the client helps create robust, engaging and joyful Positive Behaviour Support plans.

Positive behaviour support is offered to NDIS clients. Contact us for more information, and visit our Wisdom of Learning page for useful resources.

Susie has a wonderful capacity to connect cross-culturally with people, staying emotionally attuned and present, and listening deeply. She brings a ‘true heart’ to her work, caring about the person she is supporting and striving to help them improve their quality of life. She is also an excellent facilitator of group training sessions; I have been blessed to be both a participant in and co-facilitator of sessions with Susie.

Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

“To us, [Aboriginal] health is about so much more than simply not being sick. It’s about getting a balance between physical, mental, emotional, cultural and spiritual health. Health and healing are interwoven, which means that one can’t be separated from the other.” – Dr Tamara Mackean

Susie has spent decades working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in remote communities across the Northern Territory. She is a respected health professional who has formed lifelong friendships with many of the elders in these communities. They have contributed to her learning and understanding that wellbeing comes from connection to the land.

Susie has Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients who come to her because of her understanding of that connection to country, kin, language and culture form an enduring part of healing. Susie offers cultural safety to these clients by understanding wellbeing is deeply entwined with their connection, or loss of connection to country.

Susie collaborated with Australian Central Desert Elders and families to produce Happy Tap, a wellbeing video to calm body and mind.

A young Aboriginal boy said after working with Susie, “I feel good – I know what to do to settle my brains.”

The words below from Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann, AO reflect what is so important to me when I am working with people. I would like them to know that this is how I endeavour to be when I am with them: “…this quality is called dadirri. It is inner, deep listening and quiet, still awareness. Dadirri recognises the deep spring that is inside us. We call on it and it calls to us.”

“There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy” – Friedrich Nietzsche
